Definition
Form Interrogatories are standardized written questions published by the Judicial Council on form DISC-001, designed to elicit foundational information about the opposing party’s claims, defenses, witnesses, and insurance coverage. California Code of Civil Procedure §2030.010 et seq. governs their use, and the propounding party simply checks the applicable numbered questions rather than drafting them from scratch. The paralegal selects the appropriate checkboxes based on the case type—general civil, employment, unlawful detainer, or personal injury—attaches the required caption and proof of service, and calendars the 30-day response deadline. Because FROGs are preapproved by the Judicial Council, they are less susceptible to objection on form grounds than specially drafted interrogatories.
